Your Tax Number Isn't the Same Thing as Your VAT Number

A taxpayer's income-tax registration and VAT registration are different registrations — a business or individual can have an income-tax reference number without being VAT registered at all.

Entrepreneurs often use "tax number" and "VAT number" interchangeably. They aren't necessarily the same thing, and providing the wrong one when a customer specifically needs a VAT number for their own records can create compliance headaches.
