PAYE Is Not a Tax That Belongs to Your Employee's Employer

Pay-As-You-Earn is a system through which employers withhold employees' income tax from remuneration and pay it to SARS — the employer is acting as a collection mechanism, not paying an extra tax of its own.

When an employee sees PAYE deducted from their payslip, that money isn't simply an extra expense created by the employer. It's part of the employee's own income-tax liability being collected during the year, rather than owed in one lump sum later.
